Environmental Practices

At Little Eco we choose to supply products that are kind to your child and the environment. We also stock a range of items that encourage and teach your children to consider the environment too. We only choose quality crafted products that are made mostly from natural, sustainable, recyclable, biodegradable and/or recycled materials.

It's not just our products that we apply an environmental commitment to. We also have an environmental mission statement that ensures everything we do as a business in our home, coincides with our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and protecting our environment.

At home we consider the environment in the choices we make every day also. Some of the things we do and are working towards:

• Recycling
• We purchase most of our clothing from local opportunity stores
• We are saving for solar power
• We have installed four water tanks that hold approximately a combined 100,000 litres when at capacity
• Composting –worm farm and compost heap
• Make careful decisions about use of our car as we live out of town in a rural community
• Grow some of our vegetables and fruit
• Make our own cleaning and skincare products
• Only buying what we need…that gets a bit difficult sometimes!
• We use cloth nappies

We have joined the 1 million women campaign, a great initiative with women encouraged to lead the way in reducing waste and reducing our CO2 emissions.

OUR PRODUCTS

When we source our products we seek the at least some or all of the following attributes:

• Excellent quality-ensuring your product can be passed on to future generations
• Safe and healthy for your children
• Certified organic
• Skincare is not tested on animals and certified organic with no nasty chemicals
• Made from at least some natural materials such as wood, organic fibres and pure wool
• PVC, BPA, lead, Phthalate and petroleum free
• Made with some or all renewable and sustainable resources
• Made from materials in abundant supply
• Presented with recycled packaging or minimal use of
• Fair Trade certified
• Manufacturing by a company with 14001ISO endorsement (a standard for an Environmental Management System)
• Manufacturing by companies and families that care about the environment and ensure workers are employed fairly
• Environmental impact through use of the product

All of our products are used or have been used by our family and friends and this is not just a friendly statement, it is the reason we stock what we have. We have chosen these products not only because they are kind to our children and earth, but because they are reliable too.  We indicate any eco-friendly claims the companies make about their products so you can make an informed choice.

SUPPORTING AUSTRALIAN MADE AND WORK AT HOME FAMILIES

We aim to support locally made and products from Australian designed and owned companies. However, when sourcing particular products for our store we needed to source some product from overseas. These items are clearly labelled under each product description so you can make your own choices.

We also support highly skilled handcrafters who supply us with some beautiful products and these families too have considerations for the environment and your children’s health.

SUPPORTING OUR ENVIRONMENT

Here at Little Eco we support children's and environmental charities to help make the world a better place. It is our mission to believe in something big...and we hope for a better planet for our children.

On a bi-monthly basis we will donate $1 from every purchase over $25 to a chosen charity or cause. The charity for that period will be clearly displayed on our homepage.

We will also run extra promotions from time to time to support local or Australian based causes that may need assistance.

PRINTING RESPONSIBLY

We only print when absolutely necessary and prefer not print invoices or receipts for customers unless it is requested. You can choose to save a pdf of your invoive after checkout. The printing company we use print on FSC stock (renewable forest timber), use soy based inks, water based coatings, alcohol free presses and they are working towards becoming carbon neutral. The exception to this is our handmade labels which are printed on recycled paper using our home printer.
